The best way to enjoy watching your favorite TV show or movie is to make homemade black eyed pea hummus that you can eat with crackers. It is also great to serve in front of your friends who will be delighted with the taste of hummus. With a black eyed pea hummus you can also serve a traditional bread – pita, to show your culinary skills.
- 1 1/2 cups black eyed peas
- 2 tablespoons tahini
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 lemons. juice
- 4 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 cup water
- 1 pinch pepper
- 2 tsp sesame seeds
Soak the peas for 24 hours. Drain and the best way is to let it stand for 2 to 3 days, until beans sprouts are about 2/3 inches long. Rinse the beans once or twice a day. After 2 days heat the water in a pot and place the sprouted beans in a warm water, and let it stand for 1 minute. Drain the beans. If you do not do this step, the hummus may not turn out the way it should.
Place the sprouted beans in a food processor. Add lemon juice, tahini, garlic and salt. Blend it well until the pasta gets smooth, if it is necessary you can add water. It will take 3 to 5 minutes to unite the ingredients. Leave the pasta in the food processor for 5 minutes, so beans can absorb as much water as possible. If the hummus is too thick add some more water and blend again. At the end of the process you can add spices if you wish. Pour the hummus into a bowl and garnish with paprika or chives.
Sprinkle with sesame seeds, and serve.
Tip: If you are using canned black eyed peas than you need 2 cans. Drain the beans and add into a food processor with other ingredients.
