Delicious and Simple Vegan Tamales Recipe !

If you love to eat tamales but you don’t like all the bothering to prepare them, than we have the perfect recipe for you. This is one of the easiest recipes to make vegan tamales after which you’ll just lick your fingers.

Ingredients for masa:

  • 1 cup corn masa mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 large onions
  • 2 cloves of minced garlic
  • 5 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
  • Salt to taste

Preparation:vegan tamales

In a frying pan over low heat add olive oil and one tablespoon of vegetable oil, add onions that you previously cut into thin strips, cumin, pepper flakes and salt. Fry the onions on a low heat in order to caramelize them. You need to stir frequently for about 30-45 minutes, so the onions don’t burn. While you are preparing onions you can make masa. Mix corn masa mix with salt, and then add remaining vegetable oil and water. The dough has to be a little sticky, but not too much. When onions are almost done add garlic and continue cooking for about 5 more minutes.

Divide the masa dough in equal parts. Spread one little dough to be a half inch thick and to be 6 inch in diameter. In the middle of the dough add caramelized onions and roll tamale like a cigarette, and seal the ends well. Repeat the process with every little dough. Place tamales in a steamer, that you sprayed previously with non sticky spray, and cover. Reduce the temperature of the oven to low and cook for about 30-40 minutes.
