This is an easy and quick recipe for vegan yogurt and you only need a few ingredients and really little time. We have chosen to make yogurt from soy milk but you could use coconut milk, hemp milk or any other non dairy milk. Also, you can add some flavors to your yogurt like blueberries or any other berries.
- 4 cups soy milk
- 1 teaspoon agar agar powder
- 1/3 cup soy yogurt (or yogurt starter powder)
First preheat the oven to 125 degrees. Pour soy milk into a small saucepan and add the agar agar. Stir and heat the mixture of soy milk and agar agar over medium heat. Be careful, and don’t allow the mixture to boil. It needs to be heated well but it shouldn’t boil. Pour the mixture into a bowl and let it cool until it is just cold enough to put your finger into the mixture without feeling uncomfortable. If the temperature is ok, now you should add the starter powder (or soy milk). Stir and pour the mixture into clean glass jars or containers. Turn off the oven, place the glass jars or containers (without lids) inside and let stand for at least 8 hours. You must not open the oven door during this process. After that you can put your yogurt in the refrigerator.
Note :If you want to add some fruit to your yogurt you should do it while the temperature of the soy milk is still warm (100-120 degrees). Just add fruits (fruits need to be at room temperature so it doesn’t cool down the mixture), mix it in the food processor, and continue with the rest of the recipe above.
