Vegan Shampoo Recommendations

vegan shampoos guide

Many people are surprised to learn that their favorite personal care products contain non-vegan ingredients, or are tested on animals. Hair care products and makeup are often the biggest culprits. However, there are many effective and completely vegan shampoo products on the market as well. These are some of our favorite vegan shampoos – all of these products are free from any ingredients derived from animals, are cruelty free, and have great reviews from consumers.  The majority are completely organic and natural as well! Who says you can’t have great hair with ethically sourced products?!

Our favorite vegan shampoos:

  1. Nature’s Gate Herbal Shampoo

Nature’s Gate shampoo has been around since 1972, making it one of the most well established natural shampoo brands. That gives me confidence that they’re doing something right! The shampoo contains a combination of herbs and botanicals such as sage, rosemary, yarrow, lavender, thyme, and chamomile. The logo on the bottle is actually a yarrow flower. Yarrow is an herb that has long been known for its tonic properties, and impact on hair and skin. This entirely vegan shampoo is also cruelty-free in its production process, and it smells divine! Some natural grocery stores carry it in a gallon size, but in my experience the pricing on Amazon for the smaller bottles is actually a better deal.

  1. Avalon Organics Biotin B-Complex Thickening Shampoo

Avalon Organics is my top recommendation if you suffer from any dandruff problems at all. It’s filled with nourishing ingredients, including biotin, saw palmetto, quinoa, and vitamin E. For dry hair or a flkay scalp, it works better than any traditional dandruff shampoo I’ve tried. It’s completely vegan, cruelty-free, and even biodegradable so it’s gentle on the environment. The shampoo is also free from GMOs, parabens, and synthetic colors and fragrances.

  1. Kirkland Signature Professional Salon Formula Moisture Shampoo

This vegan shampoo from Kirkland Signature is one of the best value shampoos on this list. Kirkland is the private label brand from Costco, which of course prides itself on producing high quality products at low prices. This is a great choice for color treated hair, as it will safely protect your color. This fully vegan shampoo is also free from gluten, parabens and sulfates.

  1. NaturOli Soapberry Shampoo

Soapberry shampoos are one of the most well-known and popular vegan shampoos. The NaturOli brand is a completely vegan shampoo that is also free from any GMOs, parabens, or artificial color and fragrances. It’s pesticide free and never tested on animals. Soapberry shampoo is known for its ability to heal scalp issues and nourish hair. It comes in two formulations – one for normal to dry hair, and another for normal to oily hair.

  1. Original Sprout Natural Shampoo

This may be the very best vegan shampoo for kids and babies. The formulation is tear free, making it easy to bathe little ones. It also contains a number of herbs that are believed to repel pests such as lice. And the natural emollients are great for detangling stubborn knots. The shampoo is extra gentle and is 100% vegan. It’s also free from parabens, sulfates, and gluten.

  1. Alverde Organic Shampoo

This shampoo uses aloe vera and hibiscus to repair damaged and dry hair. It’s a great moisturizing shampoo, so I would recommend it for anyone with dry hair. It’s great for repairing damage from coloring or other hair treatments. It’s completely vegan with no synthetic fragrances. And the natural hibiscus smells fantastic!
